Organizations must practice risk management. They must examine
all aspects of their operations and determine who might be responsible
for a loss. They must then decide how to minimize the likelihood
of loss, all the way form avoiding the activity to contracting
with others to carry out the activity for them. More details
about risk management are found in "Absolutely, Probably,
Possibly, Maybe...But What If?" LawNow 21 (2) (October/November
1996) or on the Not-for-Profit website: www.extension.ualberta.ca/lawnow/nfp
In an associated set of FAQs, the general points made here
are further examined for a range of particular situations of
concern to non-profits and charities. See: Liability: Non-Profits
and Charities - Some Specifics.
