Question.

But what Acts apply to my organization?

Answer.

It is in the specific application of a particular section of a provincial or federal act that the various liabilities of non-profits and charities will be found. Each non-profit and charity must have people who are familiar with the statutes which contain the rules applicable to that organization. What follows are brief highlights of a number of commonly-applicable statutes.

But, for example, the management and directors of a non-profit organization providing low income housing would also want to know what parts of the Residential Tenancies Act which is the Chapter R-15.3 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta.

Similarly a non-profit or charity serving food would want to know the provincial and municipal rules relating to food preparation and serving.
